Many years ago, on a flight to England with Icelandair, I stopped down at the airport in Reykjavik for a short layover. My touchdown in Iceland, albeit brief, was enough to cause some intrigue. This was probably in the mid-90s and at that time, at least, my airport experience was enough to cause me to think, “this place is somewhere I would like to see more of."
I have yet to get there, but hopefully will soon and will be more prepared after Escape Outdoors’ Travel Talk night with Mike and Crystal MacInnis. Many of you know Mike and Crystal from Instagram and follow their updates on their travels near and far. They are both regular adventurers around our beautiful Island and do a fantastic job of showcasing some of our jewels and our lesser known magical places.
Without giving it all away, I asked Mike and Crystal what was the highlight of their Iceland trip. For Mike, it was kayaking in a glacier lagoon at the foot of Jokulsarlon glacier. How cool is that? For Crystal, it was the Northern Lights. “Seeing the Northern lights so vividly dance in the sky with the naked eye was such an excitement for me!”
A couple of things surprised them as well. Mike said he didn’t realize how much Iceland was invested in its tourism industry and how that had such a positive impact on their visit. Crystal commented on the number of tourists traveling in camper vans. She and Mike decided to do their adventure in one and highly recommend it.
I have to admit. Iceland looks dreamy and I can’t wait to hear and learn more. In addition to the highlights of their Iceland trip, the duo will give a peek into some of their best-loved locations around Cape Breton.
Just a handful of seats remain for this travel talk. Reserve yours by emailing info@escapeoutdoors.ca
